Boat Trip

It didn't seem like a very auspicious start to the day when our tour leader had problems navigating his way through Walvis Bay dockland in order to find the berth in a rather shabby yard of a pleasure cruiser.  There we were greeted by a rather large seal who then got on to the boat to enjoy a little interaction with some rather apprehensive tourists.

That was just the start of a rather unusual morning with a guide who obviously had been working in the bay for a long time before he started dealing with tourists.  We cruised along the shoreline looking at the birds until we found the dolphin - or they found us - and then they proceeded to follow us for the next 15 minutes until someone else more interesting came along.

As all this was going on, there were always birds overhead - for the simple reason that they knew the boatman.

Then we got out to the seal colony where the sea was like a primary school playground with kids running around everywhere.

Then we were able to pull into the shore in order to have a mid morning 'meal' which included Prosecco and oysters for this who felt so inclined, but the entertainment continued with a family of Jackal on the shoreline who wait there to ambush pup seals - and they look so innocent!

And all this time there were two escorts who say on the roof of the boat until they felt like stretching their wings and generally getting in the way.

So now we are told that we are moving north into 'remote' country!!
