Setting Off

Well we picked up or vehicle after and headed to the supermarket where the labels are different, but a lot of the content is the same.  The choice of meat / butchery seems to be less sophisticated than home, but we managed to stock up for three days.  There isn't space to stock up for longer than that.

This is what the group / flotilla / pack / or whatever you want to call it looks like as it sets off.  It's not quite the normal hire as there are points at which you have to stop and readjust your tyre pressures so that they will handle the road / dirt racks that you are travelling on.  The gravel tracks require a lot less pressure in the tyre in the hope that you do not go skidding off a bend where the surface has been lubricated with small stones!

After a fair bit of driving and climbing through a mountain pass, you stop for lunch with this first view looking NW across the Namib Desert which is just wall to wall.

A lot of time is spent trying to keep out of the dust cloud caused by the vehicle in front and so the group becomes a bit spread out - but not too spread out as you don't want to get lost!  Then you find that everyone in front has slowed down - not because of the scenery, but because of the wildlife.  Our first Zebra just grazing at the side of the road.  There was a baboon which crossed the road between us and the vehicle in front but it lived to tell the tale.  There could be a joke about Zebra crossings in there somewhere!
